Mind like Water

Have you ever read the book by David Allen called: “Getting Things Done”? If you have that might be the reason you found this article.

I have been struggling personally with productivity and procrastination. I can’t tell you how many days I decided to get up and get things done only to fall short of the prize. After so many defeats you realize that you are doing something wrong. When I finally hit that point I turned to David Allen’s technique of “Mind like Water.”

Mind like Water basically means an all around calm, relaxing feeling towards whatever might come your way. Like water, you are supposed to be able to handle any size rock that comes your way. If you have noticed, when you throw a rock into water it responds accordingly, by rippling. After a few seconds it is back to the way it was originally; calm. This is the way you and I should react to “rocks” in the water.

When we come face to face with a situation that ruffles our feathers our mind should go right back to the calm, water like state. This is one of the key techniques taught by David Allen and what has helped me profusely.

I have learned so much over the last week that I cannot begin to tell you how good it feels. I have ALMOST everything organized and have really started to apply my mind like water technique to my business. I had soooooo many things on my mind it took me over three hours to empty it all. After a while though a serene, quiet feeling came over me and I felt like a thousand pounds had been lifted off my back.

I talk a lot about “Mental Self Defense” on my blog and one of the arts that is practiced there is the “Mind Like Water” approach to business and life.

If you feel that you are not getting things done the way they should be done or you just feel like you have too much on your mind, study the mind like water approach to life. It has helped me and it can DEFINITELY help you.
