OK, so your in the mood for some self defense, right?

Well maybe not in the mood, but your curious about how you might go about getting a self defense in your life. With the burglary, mugging and rape statistics at an all time high, why wouldn’t you look into ways to keep you and your family safe?

With that being said, there was a time when I had over $100 stolen from me out of my cash drawer while my back was turned.  The person that did it was a former guard I worked with, and someone who I thought was a friend.  As it turns out, he was anything but.  When I turned back to the drawer, All of my fives were gone, and so was he.  My boss, who had seen some suspicious activity at the door, went  upstairs to review the tape, and, sure enough, we caught him red handed.

Now the ex-guard had already left, thinking he had committed the perfect crime.  Little did he know that we had already called the police, showed them the tape, and informed them of where he was going to be working that night.  Without the Dome Security Camera, I was going to have to come out of my own pocket to recuperate the losses.

Instead, he was arrested, and lost his day job, that required him to be bonded.  In the end, it wasnt about having a huge team, or a lot of weapons.  It was about having an incognito eye in the sky.  An $80 camera paid for itself overnight.  If I ever set up surveillance for any of my clients, I am definitely going with  the Dome Security Camera.

So, are telescopic batons a good self defense weapon or should you chose something else?

Well, this is a very good question. To be totally honest with you, it all depends on what you want to use to defend yourself with. Stung guns, pepper sprays, and many others will definitely get the job done, but a telescopic baton has something that the others lack; intimidation.

Now, don’t get me wrong, a stun gun and a pepper spray will serve the same purpose but there is something about someone holding a steel baton in their hand that makes attackers second guess themselves.

They are also very affordable. A real good one will cost you around $30.00. Not bad considering stun guns are a little pricier and you have to be within the same proximity to use one.

Do you know that there are literally thousands of self defense weapons on the market today?

Knowing which one to choose can save you hours of time and headache. That is why I have developed three simple ways that you can tell if pepper spray is a good buy or not.

1.) Cost – If you are looking for something that is not a lot of money then pepper spray is probably something you want to buy. I have seen them for as cheap as few dollars but you will be safe spending anywhere between $15-$20. Anything less than $15 might be to cheap to be effective.

2.) Effectiveness – Do you want something that will take your assailant to the ground? Well once again, self defense spray is right up that ally. One quick, 3 second burst to the eyes and you will drop like a ton of bricks. You can even get certain pepper sprays that have UV die in them. That way, if they run away, the police will know who they are by the glowing red on their face.

3.) Size – Do you really want to carry something around that weighs a ton, or is bulky? I think not. Self defense spray is small and compact and fits easily in a purse or on your key chain. I know of several people including my family members that keep spray in several areas of their homes and cars.

I know that this might seem like an easy list, but look at what you are actually getting. If you buy pepper spray you will have a small, affordable, effective piece of machinery. Just one spray can last a very long time and still be as potent as it was the day you bought it.

Above is an awesome video that demonstrates exactly how a taser works.

This is a show on YouTube called the Human Guinea Pigs and it’s remarkable.

This video shows you exactly what happens to a person once they are shot with a taser. As you will see, they immediately go down due to lack of body control.

The best part about the video is that there are three different people that get shot by the taser. Even more so, they are shot in three different places to show you the different effects each shot has. One is shot in the back, one is shot in the stomach, and one is shot in the legs. All three are pretty crazy if you ask me.

Well, let me make this a fairly quick answer by saying, NO!

Not to be mean here, people but you have to know that it is illegal to carry pepper spray on an aircraft.

Here is what the Federal Aviation Administration has to say about it. These are the things you cannot carry on a plane with you.

• athletic equipment that could be used as a weapon, such as baseball bats, golf clubs, ski poles, and hockey sticks
• fireworks, including signal flares
• flammable liquids or solids
• dangerous household items such as drain cleaners and solvent
• pressure containers
• weapons, including firearms, gunpowder, mace or pepper spray, or
• any item that may present a potential threat.

So here we are, talking about the great pepper spray again.

What I wanted to touch on, are the benefits of having pepper spray and the top five reasons it will keep you safe.

So without further adieu, I give you the top five reasons, pepper spray is so awesome.

1.) Price – Pepper spray is by far one of the cheapest forms of self defense on the market. For under $20.00 you can have a pepper spray that will bring most elephants to their knees. I know that wasn’t a good example but you get the picture. It’s pretty bad ass.

2.) Complexity – Pepper spray is NOT complex to use. If you can turn the volume up on your remote, you can use pepper spray. All it takes is the hit of a button, and down goes the assailant; problem solved.

With so many weapons to choose from, why should you pick a stun baton?

Well I am so glad you asked. There are several different reasons why one should use a self defense weapon but there is only one good reason for choosing something that stuns.

Stun batons are awesome for one simple fact: They hurt!

When you have someone trying to harass you or hurt you, all that is going through your head is getting away. You don’t care about what is going on at that particular moment, you just want to get out of the situation.

Well with most “close up” encounters a stun baton might not be a good choice. However, say you are in the car and someone walks up on you wanting to cause you harm, what do you do? If you have a stun baton next to your seat, all you have to do is whip it out and push it to their person. I can bet that after they get 1,000,000 volts, they will take a few steps back. You should honestly have a few things with or around you at all times. You should have pepper sprays, stun guns, stun batons and whatever else might make you feel a little safer.

Never think that you are being to paranoid. When you have a couple safety weapons with you, it’s just being safe.
