We have all heard the saying “can’t see the forest for the trees” and some can’t understand the expression, which kind of reinforces the idea.  Someone who can’t see the forest for the trees can’t see the point because of their own misperception of the situation.  Many of these people are the kind that can’t understand why someone would want to buy tasers.  These people usually believe that those devices are only for people that are in law enforcement or are just generally crazy, but they don’t understand the need to buy tasers.

Many people don’t understand the need for self-protection because they have never been in a situation that called for it.  Why would you want to buy tasers if you had never been in a situation that called for you to buy tasers?  Consider a scenario that I heard about on the local news the other night, it recapped a pretty scary situation at a local apartment complex.

What was somewhat humorous was that I had seen a news segment on the same channel a few days before on the dangers of allowing the public to buy tasers.  This situation showed why it is absolutely necessary as a young woman woke up to see someone watching her sleep.  She was startled and the man immediately started to talk to her and give the impression that he intended to do harm.

Luckily for this young woman, her father was “overprotective” according to some people and he had just decided to buy tasers for all of his four daughters.  She somehow convinced the man that she was ill with the flu and needed to relieve herself and as she was allowed to get up she grabbed the taser from her nightstand and applied it to him.

She told the police that her father’s decision to buy tasers seemed silly when he did it, but she may owe her life to it now.  The wonderful thing about the decision to buy tasers for some people is the idea that it isn’t a lethal way to protect yourself.  When you buy tasers you are making the conscious decision to protect yourself without killing someone else in defense.

To buy tasers online you need to be diligent about checking on the quality of the product and how to use it.  There are many reasons to buy tasers but even more to deal with a reputable dealer of such equipment- you want to know the product will work when you need it.

A lot of people out there are afraid to buy certain self defense weapons. Some people just dont want to buy pepper sprays and stun guns for several reasons. Either their not comfortable with sprays and stun guns or they just dont want to use them.

Well, for people like this, I have a solution. How about buying a steel baton, or more commonly known as a telescopic steel batons.

They are very affordable and easily compact-able. They are basically the size of a hair brush when compacted and extend to several inches or feet when needed.

Im not sure if you have ever been hit by one, but cold steel hitting your leg does not feel good by any means. I had a friend hit me one time when just to practice and it brought me to my knees. Oh yeah, did I mention that he hit me in the leg softly?

Telescopic Batons

Of all the self defense products that are available to me, I buy pepper spray.  I have been on the business end of a canister enough times to know what it can do.  Being a Bodyguard, I often find myself in situations that require a way to make someone forget they came over to do me, or my client, bodily harm.  If I need to stop someone in their tracks, I use pepper spray.  There have been instances where I have walked into a situation where my partner was using pepper spray, and he accidentally sprayed me.  It works.  Trust me…

As a husband, I make sure my wife stays well stocked with pepper spray.  She carries a stun gun as well, but one thing we have both noticed is that with pepper spray, attackers stay down longer.  That is more time for you to get away, more time to get help, and more time for the attacker to re-think why he went into this line of work.

Another reason to buy pepper spray, is the capacity to incapacitate a number of individuals simultaneously.  Most attackers are cowards, and a lot of cowards travel in packs.  We’ll call it a Cadre of Cowards.  If you happen to find yourself in a situation when you are dealing with a cadre of cowards, you can try to take them all on with any number of tools, but if you had the foresight of getting something like a Street Wise 17% Pepper Spray with Pistol Grip, you can put an entire group on the ground with little to no effort on your part.  As far as shopping for a deterrent is concerned, buy pepper spray.

Most people are intimidated by stun guns, but why let that work against you?
Use it to intimidate a would-be attacker!  Most stun guns are effective just
being discharged into the air.   If you saw one go off in someones hand,
would you stick around?

Most people think a stun gun is something you have to use up close and
person.  Up close is not the best place to be in a situation where you may
be a potential victim, but pulling it out before you have to use it is like
cocking a shotgun at the top of the stairs.  You are telling the attacker,
“Come closer at your own risk.”

They not only give off a considerable amount of light, but the most
impressive part of a stun gun is the noise.  It is LOUD!  The sound a stun
gun makes is unmistakable.  Even if you have never seen one in action, you
know what it is when it goes off.  Think of it as a police whistle that will
make your would-be attacker lose all feeling in his legs.

The second most common misconception is that they are dangerous to use.
Believe you me, they are.  But a stun gun is not something to be scared of.
On the contrary, once you familiarize yourself with it, your stun gun will
feel just as comfortable to you as your house keys.  One thing you have to
keep in mind is that while you are using your stun gun on your would-be
attacker, YOU ARE NOT SHOCKING YOURSELF!  Even if the would be attacker is
touching you, you won’t feel a thing.  (But they will.)  There are A LOT of
personal protection devices on the market, and most of them work very well.
But if you are looking for something discreet, with minimal size, but
maximum protection, buy stun guns.

I have posted things on the blog before in regards to disarming a gun and such, but these techniques are awesome.

If you watch closely, he shows you about 20 different ways you can disarm a knife and in return, use it on your assailant. He is very fast and accurate so please pay attention.

The reason I posted this is so you have a general idea of what you can do to protect yourself from someone that is using a knife on you.

REMEMBER: If you are ever going to practice this with anyone, use a fake knife. I know that might be common sense, but common sense is just not that common now a days.

Here is a simple little video made by some kid, ironically enough.

The video shows you how you can make pepper spray from the comfort of your home. Basically, all it’s made of is cayenne pepper and some water. He shows you how to mix everything and what type of bottle to keep it in.

The only thing I do not like about what he teaches, are the ingredients of the pepper spray. All he adds is cayenne pepper when he should also add cumin and ground hot pepper flakes.

This guy takes a disposable camera and somehow turns it into a working stun gun.
