Bruce Lee Quote!

Posted by On July - 31 - 2009

Do not be tense, just be ready, not thinking but not dreaming, not being set but being flexible. It is being “wholly” and quietly alive, aware and alert, ready for whatever may come.
The danger of training with the heavy bag is that it doesn’t react to one’s attack and sometimes there is a tendency to thoughtlessness. One will punch the bag carelessly, and would be vulnerable in a real situation if this became a habit.

Getting Into The 3%!

Posted by On July - 28 - 2009

I’m not sure if anyone knows who Linus “lemonarian” Rylander is but he is a good friend of mine and a GREAT online marketer.

Anyway, when reading something of his a while back he made a statement that stuck with me and hit me hard.

What he wrote in my own words is this; “Only 3% of all people, once given something of value, take action and do something with it.”

Like I said, that hit me like a ton of bricks.

Think about it, how many times did you buy a good book or an online course and just put it on your shelf? Even worse, how many times did you actually read the book and study the course and do nothing with it?

I am going to be the first to admit that I have done this a million times. Well maybe not a million but more than I can think of.

The point of this post is this; make sure you actually put what you study and or learn to use. When you want to better yourself you cant just put things on the shelf and hope they will work for you. It’s not the way life works.

Only 3% of people take action! That is horrible.

Since I am not one to preach without first practicing I have decided to come up with a test. This test will apply to me but anyone is welcome to join in.

I have read it takes somewhere close to 30 days to develop a habit. Since I’m a procrastinator (sorry I USED to be a procrastinator. Trying to change my self talk). Since I used to be a procrastinator I am going to pick one thing I used to procrastinate on and diligently dig into it for 30 days until I have developed the habit of taking care of it within a timely manner.

Every week I will post a summary of how many hours I worked on that particular subject and the results I have come up with.

I am not going to reveal the subject until next weeks post so please don’t send me a comment asking what it is, you will find out.

Ok so off I go to get S&%t done. Wish me luck and I will keep you updated.

Stun Batons: What You Need To Know!

Posted by On July - 23 - 2009

So after searching online for a good self defense weapon, you finally came to the realization that stun guns and pepper spray were not your style.

While searching however you came across a wonderful little toy you know fits you perfectly; stun batons.

Stun batons are becoming more and more popular. Think about it, would you rather have a 4 inch stun gun or a 2 foot stun baton? I am pretty sure you would choose the latter.

I have several different self defense weapons in my home and the one I always reach for when I hear that crazy 2 am noise is the good ol’ fashioned stun baton.

Another thing I think you should know is the wide variety of stun batons there are on the market. There are some that extend longer than others and then there are ones that produce a bigger jolt.

When picking your weapon make sure you pick something that is good for you. You want the right fit if you will. The one thing you want to avoid is being sold stun batons or self defense weapons that don’t fit your needs. Make sure you do a little research before making some crazy purchases. I just really don’t want your wife or husband e-mailing me about a $5,000 stun baton they bought because I told them to do so. Just giving you a heads up.

The last thing we can chat about is the price. The price ranges anywhere from $50.00 all the way up into the $100’s. I’m sure you have heard this a million times but you get what you pay for. Spend a little and get a little, spend a lot and get a lot. Blah blah blah.

So, with all that information above you should now have an idea as to what your looking for and what you will need. Keep in mind that the reason you read this was because you want and need to feel safe.
Well make sure you keep safe and remember, if your gonna go out and get a weapon, don’t get something stupid, get those stun batons.

My Bout With Procrastination

Posted by On July - 21 - 2009

OK so since I am always preaching the “how to defend yourself” sermon, I thought I would tell you how to defend yourself from something else, procrastination.

I recently came up with a game that both myself and my business partner went through with. This game believe it or not has helped us achieve an amazing amount of success. Not that anything or anyone helped us, we just got off our asses and did some work.

The “game” however helped us out quite a bit. Because of the game we were able (had) to do what we needed to get done.

I will not go into detail right now on what this so called game involves but I will be coming up with a product very soon that I know everyone will love.

If this “game” can take me from 500 twitter followers to over 9,000 and blog hits ranging from 10 a day to over 400 hundred what can it do for you?

Be sure you come back and check everything out so you can see what I’m talking about. Well, good luck and I wish you the best.

P.S. sorry I didn’t explain to much but you will see why in a few weeks.

Take Care!

My Neighborhood Was Robbed! What do I do?

Posted by On July - 14 - 2009

Someone approached me the other day and told me that their neighborhood was ransacked by robbers with machetes and sawed off shot guns.

Usually an alarm or hand held weapon would solve this problem but this person lived in Australia and their laws prohibited them from carrying a fire arm and keeping one in the house.

On top of that, they had cats that kept setting off the alarm in the house.

So as you can assume they asked me what I thought would work to solve their problems.

The first thing I asked them was whether or not they were allowed to carry pepper sprays and or stun guns on their person, as of this writing they said no. Not sure what the rules are in good old Australia but you would think they would know since they lived there; so I left it at that.

Since they could not carry the trusted pepper spray we moved on to step two; get the alarm working.

So how do we go about getting the alarm to work when they have cats in the house? That is an easy one. Most alarm companies have a setting that will allow the alarm to ignore certain motions. I’m not really sure how that works out but I know it works cause it works on my alarm system.

So after I explained that to them, they went home, figured it out and the alarm was working. All is well that ends well.

As for the whole having a weapon in the house situation, I told them to keep their knifes sharp and at arms length so they can use them if the situation were to arise.

There you have it! Someone with a little problem that was easily fixed with the help of good old Matt.

Remember if you have a problem like that post it in the comment section and I will help “YOU” out.

Good luck and remember to think outside the box when situations like this arise. You don’t want to be caught in the middle of two guys with machetes and sawed off shot guns.

Take care and be safe.

The line between self defense and assault!

Posted by On July - 8 - 2009

Below I have a list of questions that were asked of me recently in a forum.

People want to know when and how they can defend themselves if crazy stuff starts happening. With people being so sue happy now a days its a valid bunch of questions I hope help everyone out. If I missed some please leave a comment and I will answer it for you.

Oh yeah, the answers below the questions pretty much cover the blunt of all   self defense laws. These answers are true to the best of my ability and if you  have anything to add feel free to do so.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS!

Can I hit someone if they swing at me first or do I have to wait until they actually hit me?

If someone decides to cheap shot me can I defend myself?

If someone else is being attacked can I defend them?

If I’m attacked in the attackers home can I still defend myself?

When do I have to let up if I’m beating the crap out of him?

THE GENERAL ANSWER

“A defendant is entitled to use reasonable force to protect himself, others for whom he is responsible and his property. It must be reasonable.”

* Self-defensive is allowed when one fears being assaulted with consequences of serious harm or death.

* The level of response must match the threat, not exceed it.

* The person about to take defensive steps has a duty to warn if it would seem to do any good.

* One has the duty to retreat from assault if possible.

* Use force, especially deadly force, only as a last resort.

* If a “victim” uses excessive force they become the aggressor.

* Force becomes excessive when it exceeds that needed to assure one’s own safety.

* The more you know about self-defense the more responsible you have to be in its application.

* If someone swings at you, even if they miss you can then defend yourself.

Top 3 Self Defense Questions, ANSWERED!

What is the best way to learn at home?

Learning Self defense from a book or a movie doesn’t show you the exact techniques you’ll need to be effective. Learning self defense the right way requires a teacher of some sort. I know DVD’s might help a little but they are mainly used as reference more than anything else. If you truly want to learn something you need someone there to show you wrong doings and answer questions.

What is a good martial art for keeping in shape?

As stated above, there are several martial arts that can be used to learn self defense. Some of those include Hapkido, Karate, Teakwondo, and many many more. In regards to keeping in shape trust me, if you study a martial art and stay diligent to it’s training, you will get in shape. Remember that eating the right foods and regular exercise play a huge part.

After the martial arts I studied, I became ripped. With all of the running, sparring and exercising you do while studying, your body has to adapt and it usually adapts for the better.

What is the Best martial art for teenage girls?

Martial arts training can help with self-defense, but it’s just one *very limited* layer of personal protection. The best method of self-defense is prevention… namely, not getting into a situation in which you have to defend yourself, in the first place.

Thank you for coming back for our weekly question and answer series. Below is this weeks question, hope it helps you out. Well anyway, here’s the answer. Let me know what you think.

There are a ton of self defense classes that would both be good for woman and children. Taekwondo is an awesome martial art that is both fun and fairly easy for woman and children to get involved in.

Wing Chun is a Chinese martial art system that was actually invented by a woman (Shaolin nun Ng Mei). It is predominantly a self defense art, is easy to learn the basics, doesn’t rely on size or brute strength. This is one of the best martial arts to practice if you are a woman or small child. They teach economy of movement and the redirection of force. If you don’t know where to find a class teaching this, search online, there’s tons of information online about the subject.

The one thing to keep in mind is that all martial arts and self defense classes have some degree of difficulty. If you really want to learn how to defend yourself go to a few places near you that teach different styles of martial arts and ask if you can sit in just to observe. It doesn’t hurt to do so and you will get to see first hand what they offer and what you will be getting yourself into.
